THE RISE OF THE FOLDABLES
With Motorola continuing its aggressive push into the foldable market, the company is set to unveil a significantly expanded lineup in May 2026. Featuring four distinct devices – the Razr Fold, Razr Ultra, Razr+, and Razr – Motorola aims to capture a larger share of the growing foldable segment, driven by increasing consumer interest in larger screen formats. The company’s strategy reflects a recognition of the demand for versatile devices, offering a compelling alternative to established players like Samsung and Google.

THE RAZR FOLD: A TABULAR STEP
Motorola’s flagship device, the Razr Fold, represents a bold move into the tablet-style foldable category. Priced at $1,900, it’s comparable to existing 2025 foldable models, boasting 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM. The Razr Fold features a 6.6-inch external screen with a 165Hz refresh rate and an 8.1-inch inner foldable panel, offering a large display experience. While slightly thinner and lighter than Samsung’s Z Fold 7, it maintains a competitive advantage with the inclusion of stylus input, a feature Samsung has discontinued. The device utilizes a 6,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, exceeding the capacity of Google’s and Samsung’s foldables, promising solid battery life.

FLIPPHONE ADVANCEMENTS
Alongside the Razr Fold, Motorola continues its commitment to flip-style foldables. The Razr Ultra, Razr+, and base Razr offer enhanced features and refinements over their predecessors. The Razr Ultra receives a significant camera upgrade with a 50MP primary sensor capable of capturing more light, while the Razr+ swaps a telephoto lens for an ultrawide. The base model boasts a higher-resolution ultrawide camera (50MP up from 13MP). All three flip phones benefit from Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 (Ultra) or Gorilla Glass Victus protection. They also maintain large external displays for app usage and selfies.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS & PROCESSOR POWER
The Razr Ultra retains the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with 16GB of RAM, matching flagship performance. The Razr+ utilizes the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 with 12GB of RAM, while the base Razr is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7450X with 8GB of RAM. All devices launch with Android 16 and will receive five years of security patches and three OS updates, a commitment to long-term support.

AI INTEGRATION AND PRIVACY CONCERNS
Motorola continues to integrate AI capabilities across its devices, drawing from Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Perplexity. Features include notification summarization, meeting note creation, and contextual recommendations. Notably, Motorola introduces a Google Photos feature that analyzes wardrobe images for outfit suggestions. However, the integration of three different AI providers raises privacy concerns due to increased data transmission.

BATTERY AND DISPLAY INNOVATIONS
All four Motorola phones feature slightly larger silicon-carbon batteries, with the Razr Ultra reaching 5,000 mAh. These batteries offer increased capacity without adding significant weight. The displays benefit from high refresh rates – 165Hz on the external screen of the Razr Fold and 120Hz on the inner panel. Brightness and resolution levels are competitive with other high-end foldables.

CARRIER AND RELEASE DETAILS
The Razr Fold will initially be available unlocked directly from Motorola, with eventual availability on T-Mobile, Verizon, and Xfinity Mobile. The Moto Stylus will be sold separately. The Razr+ will launch on AT&T next month, with T-Mobile following later. The base Razr will have the widest carrier availability, including Verizon, T-Mobile, Google Fi, Spectrum, and more. The Ultra will only be available from Motorola on May 21st.
