Samsungtoday has unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold, its inaugural smartphone featuring three screens and a dual-folding design. When fully opened, the device boasts a 10-inch display, while a 6.5-inch cover screen is utilized when the phone is closed, minimizing visible creasing. The Galaxy Z TriFold employs an inward-folding design intended to safeguard the primary display. Samsung has engineered the “easy opening and closing” folding mechanism with an integrated alarm that alerts the user if the device is folded incorrectly. Utilizing a titanium Armor FlexHinge with two differently sized hinges and a dual-rail structure, Samsung claims this new design provides a smoother, more stable fold despite variations in weight across the displays. Further enhancing durability, a thin piece of metal protects the folding mechanism. The central display measures 3.9mm in thickness when unfolded, though it is thicker in the area housing the triple-lens camera (4.2mm), and the screen with the side button is 4mm thick. A reinforced overcoat, coupled with a shock-absorbing display layer, contributes to enhanced resistance. An aluminum frame prevents the screens from contacting one another. Powering the device is a 5,600 mAh three-cell battery system, representing Samsung’s largest battery deployment to date, with one battery located behind each display panel. The Galaxy Z TriFold features three cameras at its rear, including a 200-megapixel wide camera.

The Galaxy Z TriFold features a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom, alongside two 10-megapixel selfie cameras located on the cover screen and the main screen. Users can utilize three portrait-sized apps simultaneously on either screen, resize apps within a multi-window view, or enjoy shows in full screen. Additionally, the device can be held vertically for reading. Samsung has integrated standalone Samsung DeX, enabling the Galaxy Z TriFold to support up to four workspaces with five apps running concurrently. Samsung apps, along with Google’s Gemini Live, have been optimized for the phone’s larger display. The Galaxy Z TriFold will initially launch in Korea on December 12th, followed by expansion to markets including China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.
